Yabloko’s events on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression: authorised rallies, lectures and a nationwide marathon

Press Release, 28.10.2026

On 30 October, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression, Yabloko is holding a nationwide marathon of reading out loud the names of the dead, “People, Do Not Kill Each Other!”. It will take place online and, as in previous years, will bring together dozens of regions and thousands of people. Separate commemorative events will also be held on 30 October in many Russian cities, and we describe the largest of them below.

Yabloko’s events marking the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression have already begun. In Moscow, the party’s central office hosted a public talk entitled “The Great Terror in the USSR: 90 Years On” on 28 October, with speeches by human rights defender Jan Rachinsky, historian Nikita Petrov and Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov. The discussion was moderated by Ivan Bolshakov, a member of the party’s Federal Political Committee and head of Yabloko’s Analytical Centre.

In Vladivostok, flowers were laid on 27 October at the monument to the victims of political repression on the Sedanka Pass, where the remains of 501 victims of political repression, 495 adults and six children, were reburied in 2013. “The memory of the victims of political repression is the memory of people whose lives were cut short, of families who lost their loved ones, and of the tragic pages of our country’s history. Preserving this memory is our human and civic duty,” stressed Marina Zheleznyakova, Chair of Maritime Region Yabloko, as she laid flowers.

Tatarstan Yabloko will hold an event of reading out loud the names of victims of political repression on 29 October. At the party office in Kazan, at 3.15 pm, everyone will be able to read out loud the names of those who were unjustly convicted, sent to labour camps or shot. Registration for the event is required.

Most of Yabloko’s events marking the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression will take place on 30 October. The nationwide online marathon “People, Do Not Kill Each Other!” will bring together participants from all over Russia, and the 11-hour broadcast can be followed on the party’s YouTube channel. In Moscow, the names will be read out loud in person at Yabloko’s central office. To take part, register by choosing a convenient time.

ST. PETERSBURG

On 30 October, the leadership of the regional branch will take part in memorial events dedicated to the victims of Soviet political terror and repression. At 9.45 am, flowers will be laid at the Solovetsky Stone on Troitskaya Square, and at 12 noon flowers will be laid and names read out loud at the Levashovo Memorial Cemetery. From 6.30 pm to 9 pm, the St. Petersburg Yabloko office (13 Shpalernaya Street) will host the monthly action of writing letters to political prisoners.

It should be noted that on 30 October, party members in Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk and Chelyabinsk will also hold actions of writing letters to political prisoners. A detailed schedule of these actions in Moscow and the regions is available here.

VELIKY NOVGOROD

On 30 October, from 3 pm to 5 pm, an authorised rally in memory of the victims of political repression will be held on Bolshaya Moskovskaya Street. Those attending will not only pay tribute to the victims but also read their names out loud and express support for today’s political prisoners. The participants will also join the live broadcast of the nationwide “People, Do Not Kill Each Other!” marathon. To take part in person in Veliky Novgorod, contact the organisers.

KIROV

In Kirov, an authorised rally in memory of the victims of political repression will also be held at the Solovetsky Stone on Grin Embankment on 30 October at 11 am. The following day, 31 October, at 4 pm, the Kirov Yabloko office will host a lecture on the history of political repression. Participants will be able to discuss the tragic pages of the past, the fates of those repressed, and why it is important to preserve historical memory.

SARATOV AND STAVROPOL

The Yabloko branches in Saratov and Stavropol have announced that they will take part in the party’s online marathon “People, Do Not Kill Each Other!”. People will be able to join the nationwide event in person at the regional branch offices. Advance registration is required:

CHELYABINSK

On 30 October at 6 pm, Yabloko in Chelyabinsk will hold a lecture on the history of the Great Terror in the capital of the Southern Urals. Renowned local historian Yuri Latyshev will talk about the places connected with the repressions of 1937–1938.
