On 10 June, Yabloko’s central office will host a lecture by Alexei Arbatov, one of the world’s leading experts on nuclear deterrence and arms control. The lecture is entitled ‘The Crisis of Nuclear Arms Control’.
Alexei Arbatov is Head of the Centre International Security of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of Yabloko’s Federal Political Committee, and one of Russia’s foremost experts on arms control.
Arbatov has drawn attention to the fact that the system which had held the arms race in check for decades is now breaking down:
‘Nuclear weapons are once again becoming the primary instrument of national power and foreign policy. But the price of any miscalculation is the destruction of civilisation. How do we reconcile the harsh reality of politics with the imperative of survival?’
In his lecture, Alexei Arbatov will analyse the reality of the threats hanging over the world and address the question of why everything must be done, right now, to prevent catastrophe.
Do not miss this discussion about what the fate of the world depends on.
The lecture will take place at Yabloko’s central office (31/2 Pyatnitskaya, Moscow) on 10 June at 19:00.
Admission by prior registration.
