Today, 21 April, the Moscow City Court dismissed the defence’s appeals against the arrest of Yabloko Deputy Chair Maxim Kruglov, leaving the politician in custody.
“The arguments of both Kruglov and his defence counsel were ignored,” lawyer Natalia Tikhonova reported from the courtroom.
As early as tomorrow, the Zamoskvoretsky Court will begin hearing on the merits of Kruglov’s case. Maxim Kruglov is accused of publicly disseminating so-called “fake” information about the Russian Armed Forces (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code), has been deprived of his liberty since 1 October 2025 and held under arrest since 2 October 2025. The charges have no basis in fact and form part of the political pressure being brought to bear on independent voices.
Further details of how the court hearing on Kruglov’s remand measure proceeded in March of this year can be found here.
