On 30 May, Yabloko member Engelina Borisovna Tareyeva will turn 100. It is a great honour for us to hold an evening dedicated to the centenary of our party’s oldest member. For many years, Engelina Borisovna has maintained a personal blog on LiveJournal called “An Intelligentsia Thing”, in which she publishes both her memoirs and reflections on the present and future of our country. Her honest and brave voice, brilliant memory, erudition and expressive style resonate with thousands of readers. In the era of the early development of blogs, Engelina Borisovna became one of the first Russian bloggers who had more than 10,000 subscribers. Engelina Borisovna continues to maintain her blog even now.
Engelina Borisovna’s fate is remarkably intertwined with our country’s history: her parents were professional revolutionaries, her father was subsequently shot; in 1941 when Adolf Hitler invaded the USSR she was in Kyiv, and spent the war years in one of the collective farms in Kazakhstan; then she studied at Moscow University, knew many famous people of that time, participated in the dissident movement of the late USSR, and in the 1990s – 2000s she participated Russia’s democratic movement, and became Yabloko member.
At the evening, a film interview will be shown in which Engelina Borisovna talks about the main milestones of her long and interesting life. We will also connect with her by telephone – and all the participants will have an opportunity to congratulate her personally. Those interested will also be able to purchase a two-volume set of Engelina Borisovna’s memoirs.
The event will take place at the Yabloko party office (Moscow, Pyatnitskaya 31, building 2) on her birthday, 30 May. The event will start at 19:00. Entry by prior registration.
