The Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered an investigation into the statement of Konstantin Smirnov, the arrested editor-in-chief of Vid Sboku (Side View) online media and deputy of the Dubrovichi rural settlement from the Yabloko party, regarding violations of the holding of public hearings on the liquidation of rural settlements in the Ryazan district, which will lead to shrinking of local self-governing in Dubrovichi.
The letter from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, received by the editorial office of Vid Sboku on 6 February, runs that Smirnov’s appeal on the issue of violations of the procedure for holding public hearings was sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Ryazan Distrcit for verification.
“The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the District notify you of the results of the consideration of the appeal within the time period established by law. The progress and results of the inspection are under the control of the regional Public Prosecutor’s Office,” the letter runs.
Konstantin Smirnov had previously appealed to the Public Prosecutor’s Office the procedure for merging rural settlements of the Ryazan area into a single district. A statement was sent to the regional Public Prosecutor Dmitry Kodanev listing violations of the procedure for merging rural settlements of the Ryazan district and a petition to cancel the decisions made and the results of the public hearings. Vid Sboku wrote about it here (https://t.me/vid_sboku/10770 ). On 30 January, Konstantin Smirnov was detained, and on 31 January he was arrested (https://eng.yabloko.ru/35145-2/ ) in a case of so-called extortion, on 7 February the regional court upheld the decision (https://eng.yabloko.ru/35195-2/ ). The next day after Konstantin Smirnov’s arrest, the rural settlement in Dubrovichi, where he is a deputy, was liquidated.
