The Yabloko branch in the Sverdlovsk region received a response from the Yekaterinburg administration to the Yabloko request signed by the regional party branch chairman Maxim Petlin about the condition of the Memorial to Victims of Political Repression on the 12th kilometer of the Moscow Highway. Head of the Yekaterinburg Housing and Communal Services Department Alexander Bragin responded that the repair of the memorial is scheduled for the next two years.
“In 2024, the necessary preparatory work was carried out, on the basis of which a municipal contract will be concluded in 2025 for the provision of services in preparation of design documentation for the reconstruction of the Memorial Complex. The reconstruction and repair works of the Memorial Complex territory, including those specified in your appeal, are planned for 2025-2026 in accordance with the prepared project,” the official’s letter to Yabloko runs.
It should be noted that in 2024, Yabloko activists visited the memorial complex twice, including together with the party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov, who drew attention to the deplorable state of the memorial: several slabs were missing from the memorial cross, and the facing of the slabs with the names of 18,475 executed people was also broken.
The Sverdlovsk regional branch of Yabloko will continue to monitor the situation in 2025 and will check the implementation of the plans outlined in the officials’ response.
