Members and supporters of the Yabloko party honoгred the memory of journalist Anastasia Baburova and lawyer Stanislav Markelov, who were murdered by neo-Nazis sixteen years ago, on 19 January, 2009. Yabloko members brought flowers to the site of the murder at No 3 Prechistenka Street in Moscow.
“The 19th of January is another reminder of how little human life has become worth in our country. And that, ultimately, with the tacit approval of the authorities, brought us all to that historical and at the same time tragic time where we are now,” Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov said.
“Every year we honour the memory of journalist Anastasia Baburova and lawyer Stanislav Markelov, who were killed for their professional activities. But in addition to the fact that they were brilliant professionals in their field, they were bearers of anti-fascist values, their death in the centre of Moscow 16 years ago became a demonstration of where nationalism leads to, what it ends with, especially if the state and its officials indulge it. Eternal memory to Anastasia and Stanislav,” Kirill Goncharov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow branch of Yabloko said.
