Sergei Adamovich Kovalev has always been a legendary figure for politicians of my generation. His confrontation with the Soviet regime, the struggle for human rights were, certainly, his internal conviction. I think he would have followed his principles, even if he had to act alone.

Sergei Adamovich Kovalev comes from the generation of human rights defenders who constituted the honour of this movement. Absolute self-forgetfulness, love for people and loyalty to humanistic principles, for which Sergei Adamovich, like his friends and colleagues, was deprived of freedom – all this arouses endless respect and admiration to him.

Sergei Kovlev, legendary Soviet dissident and human rights defender, the first Ombudsman of Russia and Yabloko member, passed away at the age of 91 this morning.

On 19 September, 2021, elections of deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and elections of deputies of legislative (representative) bodies of state power in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation will take place. In the Republic of Karelia elections of deputies to the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia will take place.
Political parties as the main subjects of the electoral process began active campaigning. The Сhairman of the Yabloko party, Nikolai Rybakov, continues his election tour meetings with residents of Russia’s cities.
On 6 August, Nikolai Rybakov as the leader of the Yabloko candidates list will hold a meeting with voters in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. Nikolai Rybakov will also discuss socio-economic and environmental problems with the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk and give interviews to regional media.

Chairman of the Yabloko party Nikolai Rybakov visited Khabarovsk on 2 August within the framework of his election tour in the Far East.
During the visit, Nikolai Rybakov met with participants in the Khabarovsk civil protest. The Yabloko leader talked with the activists for about two hours and answered more than 30 questions. In particular, the head of Yabloko reminded the protesters of the Yabloko’s official position on the long-term protests in Khabarovsk in 2020:

The decision of the regional electoral commission dated August 4 runs that the decision of the Moscow City Court banning the activities of Alexei Navalny’s Headquarters and to recognising the Anti-Corruption Foundation as an extremist organisation, on the basis of which Yabloko politicians Lev Shlosberg and Nikolai Kuzmin were removed from elections on 3 August, has not yet come into legal force.
Thus, all 42 candidates of the single list of the Pskov Yabloko are considered as registered.

The Electoral Commission of the Pskov Region removed Lev Shlosberg, the leader of the Pskov branch of Yabloko and a member of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, and Nikolai Kuzmin, a member of the Regional Council of the party branch, from the elections to the Pskov Regional Assembly

From 30 July to 1 August, Yabloko party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov visited eight towns of the Maritime (Primorsky) Territory: Artyom, Bolshoy Kamen, Fokino, Nakhodka, Partizansk, Arsenyev, Ussuriysk, as well as the village of Shkotovo. Recently Vladimir Putin published an article entitled “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians”. President Putin has in the past published in his name policy articles dedicated to history and the national question. For example, in the run-up to his election in 2012. However, the meaning of the policy article penned ten years ago differed substantially from the view expressed in the current article. In the most recent text the ideal vision of Russia is no longer a mono-ethnic state, but instead a territory where historical and cultural boundaries should coincide with political borders.

The Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation accepted the case initiated by lawyer Alexander Kobrinsky in defence of the interests of the Yabloko deputies from the St. Petersburg municipality of Liteiny Okrug.
In 2019, 11 out of 20 mandates in the council of this municipality were taken by representatives of Yabloko, but it turned out that four days before the elections, a provision was made to the charter of the municipality stating that the head of the municipality is elected by a qualified, rather than a simple majority of votes of deputies. As a result, the duties of the head have remained with a pro-government United Russia deputy, elected by the previous convocation.
