The Yabloko party appeals to the citizens of Russia with a call to support candidates the elections at all levels on September 8, 2024, who advocate concluding a ceasefire agreement and who defend peace and freedom in the current conditions. It is with this position that all candidates nominated and supported by our party in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Leningrad region, the Moscow region, the Murmansk region, the Novgorod region, the Pskov region, the Rostov region, and the Ryazan and the Irkutsk regions are running in the elections.

20 years since the tragedy in the Beslan school. Yabloko honoured the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in the Belsan school

It is 20 years since the Beslan tragedy. Together with the Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Yabloko party, Kirill Goncharov, I came to the Moscow memorial to the victims of the Beslan [school attack].
On 1 September, 2004, terrorists took more than 1,000 hostages in a school in Beslan, [North Ossetia]. On 3 September, 2004, the storming of the school by security forces began.
As a result of the tragedy, 334 people died, most of them children.

Today, judges of the Moscow City Court rejected the appeals of all six Yabloko candidates against the decision of the Tushinsky District Court to remove them from the snap municipal elections in the Kurkino district of Moscow that are due on 8 September. During the hearings in the court, the Yabloko candidates continued to campaign under the general party slogan “For Peace and Freedom! For the Ceasefire Agreement!”. However, they will not be able to work with voters in the district now, despite their plans to appeal the decision in the cassation court.

Alexander Shishlov, the leader of the Yabloko faction in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, sent an appeal to the Minister of Defence Andrei Belousov, asking to organise an investigation into the information about the participation of conscripts in military operations in the Kursk region and take measures to prevent their further presence on the contact line in the region.

The Estate Museum of Pyotr Tchaikovsky in Udmurtia will be renovated. The leader of the Udmurtian branch of Yabloko, Iya Boronina, has been seeking this since September 2023

The funds for the renovation of the cultural site of federal significance were allocated by the Government of the Russian Federation: orders on the allocation of funds to Udmurtia and other regions were signed on 13 August, 2024. This happened after the Chairperson of the Udmurtian branch of Yabloko, Iya Boronina, spoke about the dire situation of the museum at a meeting of the parliament of Udmurtia, and the public prosecutor’s office started investigation into the regional Ministry of Culture, which ignored the request of the museum’s management.

On 27 August, the trial on the suit of Boris Vishnevsky, a Yabloko deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg and Deputy Chairman of the Yabloko party, against the Ministry of Justice, whose officials unlawfully included him in the register of “foreign agents,” ended.

The term of office of the current Human Rights Commissioner for Human Rights in Karelia expires on 12 September. The Yabloko party faction in the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia nominated Olga Tuzhikova, a deputy of the Petrozavodsk City Council from Yabloko, an ecologist and human rights defender, for the post of ombudsperson.

Mikhail Afanasyev, imprisoned journalist and a member of Yabloko, wins the Free Media Awards press prize

Mikhail Afanasyev, a journalist from Khakassia and a member of the Yabloko party, became a prize winner of the Free Media Awards, a prestigious award for independent journalists who refuse to give in to threats.
For many years Mikhail Afanasyev has been covering corruption in his home region, the activities of criminal gangs, and human rights violations.
In April 2022, he was arrested and sentenced by the court to 5.5 years in prison in a penal colony for “disseminating fakes about the army”.
Mikhail was accused of publishing an article in the online publication Novy Fokus about the refusal of riot police from Khakassia to go to Ukraine six weeks after the start of the “special military operation”.

Yabloko considers the recent situation around with the detention of Pavel Durov [the founder of the Telegram messenger] to be alarming and landmark event.
The situation is reminiscent of what happened to Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, an international non-profit organisation that published US government confidential information obtained from anonymous sources.

Past week, a meeting of Yabloko members and supporters, entrepreneurs, representatives of public organisations and editors of news web-sites took place in Kaliningrad. The meeting was timed to coincide with the opening of the new office of the regional branch. The office became a place for active discussion, lively debate and discussion of proposals for the development of the branch and its activities. The day was also dedicated to supporting political prisoners; the participants of the meeting prepared wrote 45 letters and postcards to Russian political prisoners.

Courts in Moscow and the Moscow Region removed from the elections nine Yabloko candidates campaigning for peace and freedom

Today, the Tushinsky District Court of Moscow removed six previously registered Yabloko candidates from the snap election to the municipal council of the Kurkino district in Moscow. Earlier, the Moscow Regional Court deregistered three candidates for the Council of the Leninsky Urban District. All candidates will challenge the courts decisions, and are currently continuing their election campaigns under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom! For the Ceasefire Agreement!”.

A second criminal case filed against Vladimir Yefimov, the leader of the Kamchatka Yabloko and journalist, under an article on “discrediting the army”

The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky City Court ruled to remand Yefimov in custody until 21 October. A lawyer is working with the journalist. Details of the case are being clarified.
It should be noted that in March 2023, Vladimir Yefimov was fined 200,000 roubles under Article 280.3 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation with a ban on writing in the social media.
Vladimir Yefimov is the organiser of the first non-governmental independent television company in the USSR – TVK, and was its editor-in-chief for 18 years. In January 2021, he received the highest award of the regional branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia – the Journalistic Glory of Kamchatka.

On 8 September, 2024, there will be no candidates from the Yabloko Party on the ballots for the elections of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region and deputies of the Chelyabinsk City Duma.
The electoral commissions refused to register all of our candidates who campaigned in these elections with two main demands:
– conclusion of a ceasefire agreement;
– release of all political prisoners.

On 19 August, Vladimir Dorokhov, Chairman of the Tula branch Yabloko and Deputy Chairman of Yabloko, received two money transfers to his accounts from an Armenian citizen whom Dorokhov does not know. Each transfer amounted to 2,000 roubles. Vladimir Dorokhov is certain that this is a planned action to assign him the status of a “foreign agent” receiving money from abroad. Earlier, Dorokhov, who was a Yabloko candidate in the elections to the Tula City Duma, was marked as a “foreign agent” in the GAS Vybory system (a special federal automated system for counting votes at elections) despite the fact that he had never had such a status. The politician contacted the police and submitted statements to banks with a request to return these payments. In addition, Dorokhov applied to the Central Bank and the Federal Security Service (FSB).

In Moscow all six Yabloko candidates for municipal deputies in the Kurkino district may be removed from the race. Two self-nominated candidates filed lawsuits in the Tushinsky District Court in Moscow against the electoral commission that registered Yabloko’s candidates.

After a historic prisoners exchange between several countries, as a result of which those to whom we wrote letters to pretrial detention centre and penal colonies where they were kept, and about whom we worried all these months and recent years, were released. Among them are Vladimir Kara-Murza, Ilya Yashin, Oleg Orlov, Andrei Pivovarov, Liliya Chanysheva, Ksenia Fadeyeva, Sasha Skochilenko, Alsu Kurmasheva, and Kevin Lik.

Yabloko Party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Yabloko Kirill Goncharov, Chair of the Yabloko Gender Faction Galina Mikhaleva, and other party members laid flowers at the monument to “Defenders of Democracy in Russia” at the intersection of Novy Arbat and the Garden Ring in Moscow. Here, 33 years ago, during the August coup d’etat, three young people – defenders of democracy – died: Dmitry Komar, Vladimir Usov and Ilya Krichevsky.
