On the night of June 22, OMON (the riot police) and private security guards moped up the office of the “For Human Rights” movement in the centre of Moscow. The reason for the eviction of the human rights organisation was allegedly expiration of the rent agreement and unwillingness of the premises owner to lease it to civil activists in the perspective. According to the eyewitnesses, the assault of the office was accompanied by beatings of people and numerous violations: the police did not allow Russian Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin to enter the office.

Despite the fact that the entrance to the building has been blocked by private security guards, Mitrokhin managed to enter and meet with the leader of the movement Lev Ponomaryov.

Moscow, 22:10. For the past five hours YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin has been in the office of the “For Human Rights” movement. The Moscow authorities are evicting the human rights organisation from its premises in the center of Moscow.
Police announced that all the people who are at present in the office detained. Sergei Mitrokhin, MP Ilya Ponomaryov, Irina Vihrova, representative of Russia’s Ombudsman, Lev Ponomaryov, head of the organisation and all the staff of the movement are detained. None of the detainees is let out of the office, including toilets. Read more »
