Even before the start of the “special military operation”, the Yabloko party warned of the catastrophic consequences of a military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. From the very beginning of the hostilities, we proposed realistic ways to end them and expressed our readiness to act as organisers and participants in the negotiation process. In April 2022, we first formulated the demand for a ceasefire agreement as the first step towards resolving the conflict.

After World War II, all political thought in post-war Europe aimed at following principles that should not allow a repeat of a major war. These were saving human lives, refusal to expand territories, mandatory negotiation process in any disputes and conflicts, publicity of political processes and the obligation to define specific achievable political goals, public governance on a peaceful pluralistic basis, protection of the rights of the individual through a variety of mechanisms, a balance between the personal freedom and public security, and respect for citizens of other countries, whatever they may be.

A letter signed by Deputy Chairman of the Yabloko party Maxim Kruglov was sent to the head of the Moscow Department of Culture Alexei Fursin. Kruglov asks the head of the department to list the violations identified during the inspection of the museum that led to its closure and the deadlines for their elimination.

Valentina Komkova was on her way to the Chelyabinsk Regional Court to give evidence on behalf of the defence in the case of a Miass resident who was accused of “demonstrating extremist symbols”. Komkova was stopped on the road by traffic police officers. They said that they had “instructions” to detain the human rights activist “until her identity was established”. Valentina Komkova was taken to the police station, despite having a passport, and was held there for some time, so that she missed the court hearing. Afterwards, the leader of the Miass Yabloko was released. According to some information, they are going to draw up a report on Komkova for her alleged “discrediting the army”.

If some may still think that what is happening between Russia and Ukraine is a regional conflict, then they are mistaken. Europe and, perhaps, the whole world are on the brink of an abyss. The main question now is how not to step into this abyss.

A protocol is being drawn up against Anatoly Nogovitsyn, Chairman of the Yabloko branch in Yakutia, for “violating the established procedure for organising or holding a rally” (Article 20.2 Part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The formal basis put forward by the police is as follows: Nogovitsyn, during a symbolic march inside the permitted perimeter in Gagarin Square, went by one meter beyond the perimeter.
Update of 25 November. City Judge Natalya Zhirkova fined Anatoly Nogovitsyn 10,000 roubles.

Deputy Chairman of the Yabloko party Lev Shlosberg was detained at the Pskov airport upon returning from Moscow today, at about 10 a.m. Shlosberg was taken to the linear police department on the airport territory. The police did not allow his wife Zhanna Shlosberg, who came to meet her husband from a business trip, to see him. Shlosberg was later released, with his laptop and telephone confiscated.

In recent days, the escalation of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine has reached a new level. The United States and European countries have allowed Ukraine to use long-range precision weapons deep into Russia’s territory. The first strikes on the territories of the Kursk region and the Bryansk region were recorded on 19 November and 21 November. In response to this, Putin approved changes to Russia’s nuclear doctrine, after which the territory of Ukraine was hit by the latest medium-range missile Oreshnik, capable of carrying a nuclear charge. The Kremlin called the launch a demonstration of a possible response to the West. Putin said during his special address that strikes on targets in the countries supplying weapons to Ukraine are possible.
The leaders of the Yabloko party note that the threat of a nuclear war is stronger than ever since the start of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, and that the only way to stop the escalation is to immediately conclude a ceasefire agreement.

Yabloko Party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov sent a letter to the Ethics Commission of the State Duma demanding them to give a public assessment of the actions of the deputy from the Kurgan region who insulted women. Rybakov noted in his address that such a disdainful attitude towards women, citizens of the Russian Federation, not only violates the requirements for the behaviour of State Duma deputies, but also incites hatred in society and humiliates human dignity.

Studies in the fourth class of the Federal Party School of Yabloko have begun. This year, about a hundred applicants applied to participate in the project, of which 62 successfully passed the competitive selection and were enrolled in the School. Among those admitted are members and supporters of Yabloko, as well as civil activists from 12 regions of Russia.
The participants of the event, members and supporters of the party shared their vision of the causes and consequences of what was happening, talked about the feelings that they first experienced on 24 February, 2022, and continue to experience to this day.
Yabloko in Moscow and the Russian regions continues its actions of writing letters to political prisoners. We are publishing the addresses of the regional branches where the actions are held as well as the dates of the action. The actions will be held in Yabloko’s regional branches all over Russia from 22 November through to 12 December. The information will be updated.

The 24th of February, 2022 became a tragic date for many of us, a turning point in life and a day after which no one and nothing will be the same. During the military actions, we have lost a lot and many people. And if good-neighbourly relations with Ukraine and the West, destroyed infrastructure and houses, and a stable economy can be restored, maybe not now, and not immediately, but still it is possible, then we will never be able to bring back those who died in this bloody massacre.

For many years, the Saratov region has been experiencing an acute shortage of specialists in socially significant areas, primarily in healthcare and education. The Saratov branch of Yabloko sent proposals to the Governor of the Saratov Region and the Reception Office of the Chairman of the State Duma that would help reduce the personnel shortage – expanding the list of organisations where alternative civilian (non-military) service is possible. Last week, Yabloko received a letter from the Government of the Saratov Region, which supported the idea of expanding the list of organisations for alternative civilian service.
On 24 November, a rally against the cancellation of the mayoral elections will be held in Yakutsk. Participants will gather at 14:30, the rally will begin at 15:00. The organiser of the event is the Yabloko branch in Yakutia. Yabloko has received a permission for the rally from the city administration.
The events after 24 February, 2022, became a turning point in the lives of each of us. For over two years, we have been living in a reality when people die every day.

On 14 November, the Legislative Assembly of Karelia considered the draft budget of the Republic of Karelia for 2025 in the first reading. The Yabloko faction voted against adopting the document. The head of the faction Emilia Slabunova notes that only the concept of the budget was considered in the first reading. Slabunova innumerates the main reasons why Yabloko cannot agree with such a budget.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin announced the preparation of a bill that would prohibit migrant children who do not know Russian from being admitted to schools. There is no doubt that this bill will be adopted: Vladimir Putin drew attention to the problem of migrant children’s poor knowledge of Russian, and the heads of Rosobrnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science) and the Human Rights Council proposed a “solution” – to ban their admission to schools. The Yabloko Party Analytical Centre decided to comment on this initiative because it is more harmful that foolish, and its implementation will lead to the opposite results.

On 14 November, the Assembly of Zavelichenskaya Volost of the Pskov District considered the early termination of the powers of deputy from Yabloko Nikolai Kuzmin due to the fact that he was included in the register of “foreign agents”. Ten deputies voted for stripping Kuzmin of his mandate, one abstained, and one (Nikolai Kuzmin himself) voted against; 12 out of 14 current deputies took part in the session.
