Today I was supposed to speak at the “government’s hous” in the State Duma dedicated to the situation in the Russian sports and the participation of our country in the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup. It was envisaged that Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sports, and Vitaly Mutko, Vice Prime Minister supervising sports and Director of the Russian Football Union, had to speak before the Duma. The Ministry of Healthcare of the Sverdlovsk region published their response to criticism by Grigory Yavlinsky, which he voiced at a press conference of the politician during his visit to Yekaterinburg on 12 December.
Regional officials were offended, in particular, by Yavlinsky’s words concerning the reduction of healthcare expenditure in the region: “Only in the last year, healthcare expenditure in the Sverdlovsk region fell almost twofold – from 39.8 to 20.4 billion rubles,” Grigory Yavlinsky said. “And the region is ranked 72nd out of total 85 for such an indicator as the share of ambulances arriving to patients within 20 minutes”. Grigory Yavlinsky’s visit to Ekaterinburg began with a meeting with the oppositional Mayor of the city Yevgeny Roizman. The two politicians discussed the development of the city, the city budget, restructuring of the budget and the principle of federalism. “From my point of view, Yevgeny Roizman is one of the most qualified and professional politicians in Russia,” Grigory Yavlinsky said after the meeting.

“The system does not tolerate common sense”

The court sentenced Alexei Ulyukayev, former Minister for Economic Development, to eight years in a maximum security penal colony. The Judge decided that his guilt in obtaining a bribe from Igor Sechin, head of Rosneft, was fully proved. Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko party, commented on the verdict on his Facebook page:
“One can be like Boris Nemtsov, or one can be like Alexei Ulyukayev. The outcome is the same. The system is functions like this. It does not tolerate common sense. No way and nowhere. Eight years of a penal colony of a strict regime for the 61-year-old ex-minister – in order to intimidate. There can be no trust to such a court. Not the slightest. Nothing looks proven, the key “witness-organiser” Igor Sechin did not come to court and disappeared from the case. On the theashold [of the trial] Vladimir Putin, publicly justified all this [during his press-conference] and said that “only the court can decide”. That’s our justice. And this is only the beginning.”

On Friday, 22 December, a ceremony of nomination of Yabloko’s candidate to run in the forthcoming presidential election will take in the World Trade Centre.
Delegates of the Yabloko congress will vote to nominate a party candidate in the presidential election on the first day of the Congress on 21 December. It is expected that Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, will be the party candidate to contest Vladimir Putin. The candidacy of Yavlinsky was proposed at the previous party congress in February 2016.
