I sincerely thank everyone who supported my participation in the election of the Governor of St. Petersburg.
I have been travelling around 84 of the 111 municipalities for three weeks after my nomination by the Yabloko conference. In each of them, I handed my personal letter to each deputy. I spoke with 24 heads of municipalities, completely traveled around 14 out of total 18 districts of the city. This work was done openly and publicly – every day I posted my trip reports on social networks.
The Rostov-on-Don branch of the Yabloko party opens a legal consulting bureau which will provide free advice to citizens on property and land issues, as well as housing and utilities services. Expert Oleg Zelinsky will answer the residents’ questions.
The Committee on Education, Culture, Sport and Youth Policy of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia supported two bills by Emilia Slabunova, MP of the parliament of Karelia and Chair of the Yabloko party.
The parliamentarians voted for Emilia Slabunova’s appeal to Vladimir Medinsky, Russian Minister of Culture, about improving the quality of restoration works of cultural heritage sites. Slabunova proposed to annually index the cost of restoration works of historical and cultural monuments. Yet the cost has been calculated as of the rates of 1984, and then it is indexed to the 2012 price level.
On Tuesday, 2 July, a meeting in memory of Yuri Shchekochikhin, journalist and deputy of the State Duma from the Yabloko party, was held in Moscow. Yuri Shchekochikhin died 16 years ago, on 3 July, 2003, after been poisoned with an unidentified substance . The cause of death was undetermined, but there are no doubts that he was murdered for his parliamentary and journalistic activities.

The Audit Chamber of Russia will not check the flights of Igor Sechin, Rosneft Chief Executive Officer, to elite resorts on a company’s plane. There will be no checks of Rosneft, because it is not included in the annual plan, as follows from the answer of Valery Bogomolov, auditor of the Audit Chamber and former State Duma deputy from United Russia.
Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova sent a complaint to the Central Electoral Commission about fraud in collecting signatures in support of acting Governor of St.Petersburg Alexander Beglov, who intents to run as candidate for Governor of St. Petersburg in the forthcoming election. Slabunova also asked the Investigative Committee to conduct an inspection of violations.
Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova demanded that law enforcement agencies initiate a criminal case under article 141 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on the fact of obstructing the exercise of electoral rights of candidates for deputies of the St. Petersburg municipality Yekateringofsky, and immediately release candidate from Yabloko Fyodor Gorozhanko, who was brutally detained by police officers by the building of the municipal electoral commission the day before, when he tried to apply to the commission for nomination. Fyodor Gorozhanko is still in the police. In addition, Emilia Slabunova asked the Central Electoral Commission to pay attention to the situation with registration of candidates in St.Petersburg and ensure the electoral rights of candidates to municipal deputies.
In his speech at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow before a concert to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China, Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, started by telling a story about Mao Zedong. It turned out to be very symbolic, all the more so in the context of the nostalgia that we are experiencing in Russia today for the darkest Soviet times. We have found an ally who is proud of a leader who crippled and maimed the lives of dozens of millions people all over China.

“An absolute liberal” renounced the liberal idea.
Wait for another trouble.
In January 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with a number of Russian and foreign television channels, said that he was “a real liberal” and “held liberal views”.
The Conference of the St. Petersburg branch of Yabloko nominated 547 candidates for deputies of municipal councils in 85 of the city’s total 109 municipalities. The final number of candidates will be even larger, since the election headquarters still receive applications from potential candidates.
On the threashold of the Moscow City Duma elections, many again began to discuss the everlasting topic of the Russian politics – the “inability of the opposition to unite” and the intra-specific struggle of democrats hindering the common cause. In my opinion, there is no point to grieve about this: coalitions should be formed in a natural way, based on common values, programmes and methods, rather than formally common signs.
Emilia Slabunova, Chairperson of the Yabloko party and MP of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia, submitted to the Karelian parliament a draft appeal to the Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky on improving the quality of restoration of cultural heritage objects.
Nikolai Rybakov, Deputy Chairman of Yabloko, and Valery Goryachev, Executive Secretary of the Party Bureau, submitted documents to the Moscow Electoral Commission on nomination of party’s candidates to run in the elections to the Moscow City Duma.
Emilia Slabunova, Chair of the Yabloko party and MP of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia, filed a complaint with Karen Shakhnazarov, Vice Chairman of the Council for Culture and Arts under the President of Russia, on the fact that studio of film director Nikita Mikhalkov plans to film a fire in the historical wooden village of Kinerma in Karelia. Earlier Public Prosecutor’s Office in Karelia initiated an inspection on Slabunova’s request.
On 15 June, the conference of the Chelyabinsk branch of Yabloko nominated Yaroslav Shcherbakov, Chairman of the regional branch, as a candidate for the post of Governor of the Chelyabinsk region. In accordance with the law, the nomination of Shcherbakov was agreed upon by the Executive Committee of the Bureau of the Yabloko party.
Yevgeny Bunimovich, Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Moscow and member of the Federal Political Committee of the Yabloko Party, appealed to the Chief Public Prosecutor of Moscow in connection with detention of minors during a demonstration against the arbitrariness of the law enforcement held in Moscow on 12 June, the Russia Day.
In August 2018, protests began in the Republic of Ingushetia against the transfer of part of the territory of the region under control of the authorities of the Chechen Republic. A corresponding, and in fact, backstage agreement was signed by the heads of the two regions on 26 September, 2018, without taking into account the opinions of the residents of Ingushetia. Beginning in October 2018, protests against the backstage transfer of territories became widespread – dozens of thousands of citizens took part in them and maintained the peaceful nature of their actions throughout all the period of the protest. Echo Moskvi in St. Petersburg radio station, 13.06.2019
On 12 June, Grigory Yavlinsky, founder of Yabloko and Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of the party, spoke on the Echo Moskvi in St. Petersburg radio station about the party’s participation in the upcoming gubernatorial and municipal elections in St.Petersburg, as well as of the party’s vision of the future development of the city.
On the evening of Thursday, 6 June, Ivan Golunov, Meduza’s correspondent, was beaten and detained by police in Moscow. The police allegedly discovered prohibited substances on him when he went to meet with the source. On the same day, searches were conducted at Golunov’s home.
Boris Vishnevsky, head of the Yabloko faction in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, submitted to the St.Petersburg Electoral Commission documents required for his registration as candidate in the St. Petersburg gubernatorial election.
