On Russia’s polices in the Middle East and Africa
Statement by the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, 3.12.2019
The Federal Political Committee of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko notes the dangerous counterproductiveness of Russia’s policies in the Middle East: the country did not gain allies there but got bogged down in a strange, endless civil war that claimed thousands of lives.
In 2015, the Russian leadership promised that the operation in Syria would last less than a year, then it was announced several times that the operation had been completed and the troops had been withdrawn, and now Vladimir Putin has announced that the Russian army will remain in Syria until the Syrian leadership asks it to leave, that is, to infinity.

Statement by the Yabloko party, 2.12.2019

The Yabloko party is closely following the case of Alexander Shestun, former head of the Serpukhov district of the Moscow region.
During the investigation and trial, the investigators committed numerous violations, such as inappropriate conditions of detention, use of physical force, and failure to provide medical assistance to a defendant with diabetes. The measures applied to Shestun, in particular, bringing him unconscious to court, do not at all correspond to the gravity of a possible crime. In response to such tratment, Shestun began a hunger strike on 26 November, 2019.

The Yabloko faction in Moscow City Duma: Stop repressions against the Anti-Corruption Fund!
Statement by the Yabloko faction in the Moscow City Duma, 29.11.2019
Searches have been going on throughout the country at the offices of the Anti-Corruption Fund (FBK) for several months already. The equipment and property of the organisation are seized, employees are summoned for endless interrogations. It is clear that such actions by the authorities are politically motivated and aim to paralyse the activities of the organisation that they do not like. Harassment of FBK employees and supporters, confusing charges of laundering funds with extremely vague wordings, adding the organisation to the list of “foreign agents” on the basis of two transfers of two private individuals, endless searches and detention of everyone associated with the activities of this organisation – all this represent recognisable actions, the familiar handwriting of frightened and disoriented security officials. All this is a continuation of reprisals, the path of which the authorities took this summer.

Emilia Slabunova on the voting of for Yabloko’s amendments for draft budget of Karelia in the Karelian parliament: the ruling United Russia party manages the budget not in the interests of voters
Press Release, 28.11.2019
Today, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia did not support amendments of the Yabloko faction to the draft budget of the Republic of Karelia for 2020. The bill was examined in the second reading.
“The behaviour of the deputies clearly demonstrates that they understand the importance and necessity of our amendments, but at the same time they bring up inconsistent arguments, they dodge as best they can in order to block the amendments. They constantly turn to the government with a request to express the position of the executive branch, that is, they demonstrate their helplessness. They say that local authorities did not apply to them on this issue. At the same time, according to other amendments based on requests from the local authorities, they also vote “against” if they have made such a political decision,” that is how Emilia Slabunova, the author of the amendments and Chair of Yabloko, assesses the actions of Karelian parliamentarians.
