On 21 October, the Yabloko Party University will host an online lecture by political scientist Vladimir Gelman. The lecture will start at 19:00.
The topic of the lecture is “Unworthy Governance: Politics in Contemporary Russia”. Why is the quality of governance in Russia much lower than what we would expect for a country with a relatively high level of socio-economic development? What are the reasons and mechanisms of “unworthy government” in Russia, and are there any chances of overcoming it?

On 12 October, the local organisation of the Novosibirsk branch Yabloko appealed to the City Council of Novosibirsk with a proposal to return the second round of the mayoral election. The appeal is addressed to Dmitry Asantsev, Chairman of the Council of Deputies, and Igor Atyakshev, Chairman of the profile commission on local self-government.

The Yabloko Party joined the Dobroshrift (KindFont) campaign and changed the font in its logo to support people with motor disabilities.
Dobroshrift is a social project of the Podarok Angelu (Gift to an Angel) foundation, which has been held for the second year, on the first Wednesday of October, the International Day of Infantile Cerebral Palsy. It helps to draw public attention to the problems of people with motor disabilities, and raise funds for children with cerebral palsy.

Firms close to Moscow officials participated in the tender

The Anti-Corruption Policy Centre of the Yabloko Party has identified signs of cartel conspiracy in procurement for construction and major repairs in Moscow. The investigation was launched after residents of the Khamovniki district filed complaints about the quality of the repairs of their housing. Moscow officials – deputy head of the Basmanny District Administration Sergei Salnikov and head of the Capital Construction Directorate Alexei Butusov – are involve in the purchases with signs of price collusion.

Yabloko Chairman Rybakov sent an appeal to the General Director of the Bukvoed bookstore chain with a request to put a memorial plaque on the wall of the bookstore in memory of Timur Kacharava, St. Petersburg musician, anti-fascist activist, and one of the organisers of the Food Instead of Bombs movement in St. Petersburg, who was stabbed by a far-right nationalist group on the steps of the bookstore.

Today is [the 14th anniversary from] the day of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. I brought flowers from Yabloko to the place of her death. 14 years have passed – only one year is left to investigate. Customers are not announced and not held liable. And murders continue.

Yabloko’s Anti-Corruption Policy Centre initiated the case worth 323 million roubles

The Moscow Department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia has filed a case on violation of antimonopoly laws against six companies. The case was opened after an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Policy of the Yabloko party about a cartel on provision of amenities in Moscow. The cartel participants face a fine of 10 – 50 per cent of the initial purchase price and criminal prosecution under Article 178 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

A tense situation has developed in the relationship between the administration and the Council of Deputies in the Zaboryevsky rural settlement (one of the largest settlements, includes 15 settlements near Ryazan) over the past month. The head and new deputies of the Council were elected a year ago. Irina Kopylova, representing the ruling United Russia party, became the head of the administration. Anatoly Kivva, candidate from the Yabloko party, won a mandate in the elections of deputies in the largest district of the settlement.

Statement by the Social Democratic Faction of the Yabloko Party, 5.10.2020
We support the All-Russian campaign of medical workers “Pay for COVID!”, who demand full and timely payment of incentive and insurance premiums to healthcare workers for their labour in the conditions of the coronavirus infection.
Dozenss of thousands of medical and support personnel have been unfairly deprived of these payments, and payments for dozens of thousands medical workers have been significantly and unduly reduced.

On 16 January, 1969, Jan Palach, a 20-year-old student of the Faculty of Philosophy, set himself on fire in the very center of Prague, in Wenceslas Square. He took this step in protest against the indifference of society, which resigned itself to the end of democratic reforms, known as the Prague Spring, abandoned the struggle for freedom, independence, a new economy and submitted to the political regime established after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Soviet troops. Letters were found in Palach’s briefcase explaining his act.

Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov demanded that the Public Prosecutor General and the Investigative Committee initiate a criminal case under the article “incitement to suicide” over the tragic death of Irina Slavina, Editor-in-Chief of Koza Press, who set herself on fire in front of an interior ministry office in the city of Nizhniy Novgorod. Rybakov personally knew Irina Slavina.

The Moscow Region Court removed eight registered candidates from Yabloko, as well as two independent candidates, from early elections to the Council of Deputies of Shatura.
Lawsuits against opposition candidates were sent to court by candidates from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, LDPR, and A Just Russia. It should be noted that candidates from these parties had a common representative in court. The pretext from removing opposition from elections was the allegedly incomplete package of documents submitted by Yabloko, as well as the alleged corrections in the lists of voters’ signatures submitted in favour of independent candidates. At the same time, independent candidates have copies of signature lists certified by the territorial electoral commission, where there are no corrections or amendments, as well as an inventory of the documents adopted, on the basis of which they were initially successfully registered.
