Cultural group “The third way” evicted
Press Release, January 21, 2013
The police removes the belongings of “The third way” NGO from their premises which they used since the beginning of the 90-s. The representatives of the authorities act contrary to the court decision which stated that the organisation couldn’t be evicted until another premises is provided. The police officers demand YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin who arrived to support “The third way” group to leave the building.
The reason for the eviction is the property dispute with the church situated nearby. At the end of 2013 the parties to the conflict reached agreement: the premises should be sealed until “The third way” is provided with the new premises.
Today the agreement was broken. The workmen under the command of the head of the local Department of Internal Affairs started to remove the belongings of the organisation. The police refused to explain to what place they were taking the NGO’s property.
“The forcible takeover which completely breaks the law takes place here. There’re several court decisions which forbid to evict the NGO until another premises is provided,” said Sergai Mitrokhin.
The police officers demanded Sergei Mitrokhin to leave the building, but he refused to follow the order.
“The police didn’t show the documents which proved the lawfulness of their demands,” commented YABLOKO leader.
