YABLOKO picketed the Federation Council against the change of the electoral law
Press Release, October 30, 2013
YABLOKO municipal deputy conducted a one-person picket outside the Federation Council, the upper House of Parliament, against the new bill which allows to conduct the elections to the Moscow City Duma and the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg only in single-seat constituencies and breaks the equality of the constituent territories before the law.
The new law states that no less than 25 percent of deputies should be elected under the party-list proportional system in the regional parliaments. Moscow and St. Petersburg will be allowed to set the percentage themselves.
“The ruling United Russia party acts in its interests as it’s much easier for them to save the majority in the legislatures by means of single-seat constituencies”, said YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin.
YABLOKO appeals to the Federation Council as providing the equality of the constituent territories is its function.
Grigory Semyonov held a poster that read “The amendments to the Federal law 184 is the undermining of the equality of the regions”.
