YABLOKO Chairman Sergei Mitrokhin participated in the meeting
of representatives of the Russian opposition with new US Ambassador
to Russia Michael McFaul.
“I spoke to Ambassador about the need to continue the dialogue
on the problems of joint Russia-US anti-ballistic missile
defence initiated by the YABLOKO party in the end of 1990s,”
Mitrokhin told the journalists after the meeting.
Mitrokhin also reiterated that this issue was touched upon
at
the meeting with US President Barack Obama (on July 8, 2009)
in the presence of Michael McFaul, then Special Assistant
to the President on National Security. Later YABLOKO founder
Grigory
Yavlinsky discussed the joint ABM project at the meeting with
US Vice President Joseph Biden.
Michael McFaul told Sergei Mitrokhin that during his work
as Special Assistant to the President he had thoroughly investigated
the issue and thus was ready to discuss it in detail. Ambassador
McFaul also gave his agreement to conduct a separate meeting
with YABLOKO’s experts on the problem.
