YABLOKO’s leader Sergei Mitrokhin made a speech
at the Pirogov Doctors’ Congress which is taking place in
Moscow today.
In the beginning of his speech Sergei Mitrokhin expressed
his indignation that officials from the Ministry of Healthcare
neglected this representative doctors’ meeting. “It seems
to me that this is the most eloquent testimony that the management
of our healthcare system is unprofessional,” Mitrokhin said.
Sergei Mitrokhin also reiterated that the YABLOKO party had
already begun active cooperation with the Russian Medical
Association (RMA) headed by Dr.Ashot Sarkisyan.
In spring 2010 the YABLOKO party and the RMA signed a joint
Memorandum “On the State policies in the field of healthcare
and reforming of the healthcare system”.
“The ideas from our Memorandum will obviously be laid in
the basis of the healthcare part of our party programme which
we will use not only at the State Duma (parliamentary) elections,
but also at elections to representative bodies of all the
levels,” he added.
Mitrokhin also stressed that he found the idea “that the
healthcare should focus on the patient – doctor relations,
rather than demonstrate domination of medical bureaucracy
over them” very important and fruitful.
According to Mitrokhin, “the legacy of the Soviet system
enslaves both the patient and the doctor and makes them the
serfs of the authorities.” “The sooner we abolish this dependency,
the more chances we have the doctor’s welfare will rise and
the quality of medical services will improve,” Mitrokhin said.
“You can always rely on the YABLOKO party, as a party defending
your interests,” Mitrokhin concluded.
