St. Petersburg election: latest figures

A gubernatorial election was held in St. Petersburg on Sunday. With 99 percent of the votes counted, none of the candidates for Governor of St. Petersburg gathered 50 percent of the vote.

According to the St. Petersburg Electoral Commission, Presidential Representative in the North West Federal District Valentina Matviyenko leads in the election, with 48.61 percent of the vote. Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Anna Markova comes second, with 15.89 percent. Thus Matviyenko and Markova will take part in the second round.

Sergey Belyayev, the former general director of Sheremetevo airport, received 8.1 percent. Mikhail Amosov, head of the Yabloko party's faction in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, collected 7.06 percent.

10.97 percent of voters voted against all candidates. The turnout was 28.99 percent (1.068m people). According to the St. Petersburg Electoral Commission, no attempts to buy votes have been reported.
