On September 8 electoral commissions announced registration
of two YABLOKO election lists – for elections to the Legislative
Assembly of the Chelyabinsk region and the City Duma of Tomsk.
The electoral commissions checking the signatures of the voters
required for registration detected a very small number of
defected signatures – only about 3 per cent.
YABLOKO collected over 15,000 signatures in the Chelyabinsk
region. Chair of the local YABLOKO branch Andrei Talevlin
noted that this had been a complicated task during summer
vacation period, however, YABLOKO managed to do this.
In Tomsk YABLOKO collected over 4,000 signatures. Chair of
the Tomsk YABLOKO Vassily Yeryomin said that the most difficult
problem was citizens’ mistrust to this procedure. “People
are afraid to put their passport data by the signature as
they suspect that some banking loans can be taken with the
use of their data,” Yeryomin said.
The election campaigns will last for a month, elections will
take place on the same day – October 10.
In the Chelyabinsk region YABLOKO’s list is topped by women
– ecologist Natalya Mironova and human rights activist Fatima
Kobzhasarova. The campaign will focus on environmental problems
that are very urgent in this region and women’s rights.
YABLOKO’s campaign in Tomsk will lay emphasis on fight against
corruption – one of the most acute problems of the city.
