The
YABLOKO party states that the resumed investigation of the
murder of Galina Starovoitova gives hopes that those who ordered
this crime will be identified.
“We would like to hope for the better, and that there is
political will in this case so that not to close the case
when those who implemented the crime are found, but to find
those who ordered the murder, maybe not the very top persons,
but still those who ordered and organised the crime,” Mikhail
Amosov, member of YABLOKO’s Political Committee told Interfax.
Amosov also noted that he could see a direct link between
resuming the investigation and arrest of ex-deputy of the
State Duma Mikhail Gluschenko who had been arrested in early
summer and was interrogated as a witness. “I think the link
is obvious,” Amosov said.
He also marked the efforts of Starovoitova’s aide Ruslan
Linkov and her sister Olga who had been insisting that the
investigation should be resumed and those who had ordered
the crime should be found.
Boris Vishnevsky, member of YABLOKO’s Bureau also expressed
his hope that those who ordered the crime should be detected.
“What we have seen by today can not be regarded as proper
investigation of the murder. Those who ordered it have not
been found. Now we have some hope that maybe this will be
finally done,” Vishnevsky told Interfax. “I can not rule out
that new circumstances allowing to resume the investigation
could emerge during interrogation of Gluschenko,” he said.
It has been announced that the Federal Security Service (FSB)
resumed the investigation of the murder of Galina Starovoitova.
“In view of newly emerging circumstances the investigation
has been resumed,” a FSB representative told Interfax. However,
he did not specify on these new circumstances.
Gluschenko was detained by the investigation department of
the Investigative Committee of the Public Prosecutor’s Office
in St.Petersburg in connection with the murder of three Russian
citizens – Yuri Zorin, Viktoria Tretyakova abd ex-deputy of
the State Duma Vyacheslav Shevchenko – in Cyprus in March
2004. The Kuibishevsky Court of St.Petersburg on the application
of the Public Prosecutor motioned the arrest of Gluschenko.
Gluschenko is accused of blackmail and organisation of murder
of the three Russian citizens in Cyprus. Earlier Gluschenko
had been mentioned by the media in connection with the murder
of Galina Starovoitova.
Deputy of the State Duma and co-chair of the Democratic Russia
party Galina Starovoitova was shot in the entrance of her
house on November 20, 1998. He aide Ruslan Linkov who was
accompanying her was wounded. In April 2008 investigation
of this murder was suspended.
