On
August 26 the Ingush regional branch of the YABLOKO party
submitted signatures required for registration of election
lists at the campaign. Now the republican electoral commissions
have to decide whether to let YABLOKO to participate in the
elections that will be held on October 11.
It is the first time in the history of Ingushetia that elections
of legislative bodies on the municipal level are taking place.
Regional branches of political parties have begun actively
campaigning in the republic. Daud Garakoyev, leader of the
Ingush YABLOKO, told about the specifics of the election campaign
in the region.
According to Garakoyev, the so-called stumping teams that
included heads of district administrations, mayors of cities
and settlements and representatives of electoral commissions
were formed when elections had been called in the republic.
They conducted population awareness campaign using all the
available ways and means from personal meetings with the population
to radio and television.
However, informing the population of the forthcoming elections,
the officials tried to emphasise that only four parties represented
in the State Duma (the United Russia, Just Russia, the CPRF
and LDPR) will participate in the elections. They somehow
“forgot” mention YABLOKO, the Patriots of Russia and the Right
Cause parties.
“It looked like such parties simply did not exist,” said
Garakoyev. “I personally visited such meetings with the electorate
and asked them ‘why do you deceive people?’ Certainly no one
could give me a clear answer”.
