MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - The Russian Supreme Court has overturned a lower court's ruling on the murder of Farid Babayev, the leader of the Dagestani branch of the Yabloko party.

"The Dagestani Supreme Court's ruling has been overturned, and the case has been sent back for retrial," the Yabloko press service told Interfax on Thursday.

"The Dagestani Supreme Court's ruling has been disputed by all parties involved in the proceedings. The prosecutors and Babayev's relatives are demanding that the acquitted Seferali Sefemirzoyev, whom they see as an accomplice and one of the masterminds of the murder, be found guilty," Yabloko said in a press release circulated just before the Russian Supreme Court's session dealing with the case. "The defense in turn is seeking acquittal of Rasil Mamedrizayev, who was found guilty of killing the leader of the Dagestani Yabloko," it said.

Babayev, who was No. 1 on Yabloko's election roll in the State Duma elections in 2007, was gunned down in the lobby of his house on November 21, 2007, several days before the election. Doctors were fought to save his life for three days, but he died on November 24.
