The Electoral Commission of the Sverdlovsk Region hampers YABLOKOs campaigning for mandates in the regional parliament

Chair of the Electoral Commission of the Sverdlovsk Region Vladimir Mostovschikov has been undertaking efforts for withdrawing YABLOKOs candidates from the regional Duma campaign. The leader of YABLOKOs branch deputy of the Ekaterinburg City Duma Maxim Petlin told to UralInfromBureau that the decisions adopted on the initiative of Mostovschikov demonstrated this too well.

Thus, the regional Electoral Commission questioned the legitimacy of the candidates non-party members proposed by YABLOKO. They had the right to apply for being enlisted as Duma candidates within the first three days on announcement of the date of voting from December 11 to December 14. However, this norm is not mandatory. But Mostovschikov insisted that the candidates should sign their applications even after expiration of this period. Suddenly the applications made on his request turned into a stumbling block in further relations between YABLOKO and the heads of the electoral commission.

Also Mostovschikov questioned the legitimacy of the conference of the YABLOKO branch conducted on the threshold of the elections. He made a statement with a reference to the Ministry of Justice data that the party did not properly register its local organisations. According to Petlin, this information is false.

Petlin expressed his opinion that the heads of the regional Electoral Commission were ordered not to allow YABLOKO to participate in the elections; whereas the United Russia party is most interested in withdrawals of YABLOKOs candidates from the race. YABLOKO intended to base its campaign on tough criticism of Arkady Chernetsky, member of United Russia and Mayor of Ekaterinburg, considerably lowering the rating of the party of power among the dwellers of the city.

Maxim Petlin is going to file a complaint to the Central Electoral Commission of the RF on the decision of the regional Electoral Commission. If this demand is not supported, representatives of YABLOKO will go on defending their rights in court.
