The Democratic Assembly will discuss freedom of speech in Russia in January 2002

The discussion of freedom of speech in Russia will be the main topic of the All-Russia Democratic Assembly that will meet in Moscow in the
second half of January 2002.

Such a decision was adopted at the second meeting of the Democratic Assembly held in Moscow on Monday, December 3, 2001. Representatives of 22 parties, movements and civil organisations took part in this meeting, as was the case at the first meeting in June 2001.

Representatives of the Union of Journalists of Russia and the Glasnost Protection Fund are responsible for preparing the discussion of the main issue. The meeting that will discuss freedom of speech in Russia will be chaired by Alexei Simonov, President of the Glasnost Protection Fund.
