The founders of the "Against All Odds" contest are the Yabloko Association, the Glasnost Protection Fund and "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper. The contest is being held for the fourth time. Since 1998 it has bore the name of Larissa Yudina, Editor-in-Chief of the "Sovetskaya Kalmykia" newspaper who was tragically murdered.
This year the winners of the contest, in addition to fourteen individual journalists, are four newspapers "Lipetskaya Gazeta", "Delovoi Peterburg"," Sarov" (Nizhni Novgorod region) and "Khronika Nedeli"(Makhachkala, Daghestan).

In his speech at the ceremony the leader of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky
said that "there is no problem of freedom of speech in Russia, there
is only a problem of freedom after speech".

Speaking about the negative trends in the Russian press, Yavlinsky expressed his opinion that "today a normal reader cannot detect what was written in the newspaper on order and what was written absolutely honestly".

Based on Interfax reports.
