The leader of the Yabloko faction of the State Duma Grigory Yavlinsky is positive about the prospects for party-building, the creation of new parties and formation of multiple public political movements and associations on the basis of the parties existing in Russia. “More parties that are good and different!” said Yavlinsky in response to a question about his attitude to the process of party-building in Russia at a press conference on Thursday September 27, 2001. Asked whether he would participate in the constituent congress of the party that is being created on the basis of the Fatherland movement, Yavlinsky said: “I will forward my congratulations, but it is unlikely that I will visit this congress.”
Explaining the position of the Yabloko faction regarding the draft federal budget for 2002, Yavlinsky stated that there would be a free vote on this issue for members of the Yabloko faction.
“We positively assess the main parameters of the draft and think that in these conditions it would be unreasonable to adopt a strict decision on a consolidated vote: there is simply no need,” added Yavlinsky.
