On September 21-22, 2001 the leader of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky made a working visit to the city of Tambov.

The aim of the visit was to discuss the socio-economic situation with the residents and authorities of the region, as well as participation in the working meeting of the heads and representatives of the regional organisations of Yabloko in the Central Black-Soil Area of Russia.

Yavlinsky’s first stop in the Tambov region was at the town of Dmitrovka. The discussion evolved around the prospects of the town in view of the planned changes in federal laws on land.

Yavlinsky also had a detailed discussion on economic prospects of Tambov region with the governor of the region Oleg Betin and Mayor of Tambov Alexei Ilyin.š The main topic of the two working meetings with the leadership of the region were the plans of the Russian government for reforms in the housing and communal services sector. An oral agreement was achieved on the assistance of the federal and regional Yabloko to the administration of the city and the region to resolve their problems in this sector.

On September 22, 2001 Yavlinsky opened and conducted a working meeting of the heads of regional organisations of Yabloko of the Central Black Oil Area of Russia, namely Kaluga, Tula, Belgorod, Voronezh, Penza, Tambov and Lipetsk regions. The meeting discussed the technical aspects of the transformation of the Yabloko Association into the All-Russia political party and specifics of Yabloko’s activities in the area. The participants of the meeting adopted a decision on closer coordination of their actions. From now on regional meetings will be held regularly. Soon a regional information centre will be opened.

Yavlinsky highly appraised the work of the organisers of the meeting – the Tambov regional organisation of Yabloko headed by deputy of the Tambov City Duma Igor Reznikov. Yavlinsky also noted that the development of the Tambov branch of Yabloko is the most dynamic.
