On Thursday, April 26, the anniversary of the Chernobyl
disaster, YABLOKO will conduct a staged action by the Russian
Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom) under the slogan "Save
the world from the peaceful atom"
The key demand of the picketers is to stop Rosatoms dangerous
experiments in Russian nuclear power plants, namely:
- continuing functioning of 11 Chernobyl reactors RBMK-1000;
- exploitation of reactors at a power higher than projected
and over the exploitation term;
- construction of new nuclear power plants in accordance with
pilot projects NPP-2006 and MTBF.
Further development of these dangerous experiments is a way
to new disasters, say the organizers of the picket, YABLOKO
and environmental organisations.
Activists wearing the costumes of the death will tell about
the threats of "peaceful atom". An activist in a
mask of Rosatom's head Sergey Kiriyenko will also join them.
Activists from the movement Otkritiy Bereg, Sreda Obitaniya,
Khraniteli radugi, the Moscow Society for Protection of Nature
and Socio-Ecological Union will participate in the action.
The action will start at 12:30.
Address: Tretyakovskaya metro station, Bolshaya Ordynka 24.
Also YABLOKO will hold the same action in Chelyabinsk, where
YABLOKO activists, environmentalists and civil activists will
pay tribute to the memory of liquidators of the Chernobyl
disaster.
The activists will fly 26 balloons symbolizing 26 years since
the tragedy.
The action will begin at 18:00.
