The YABLOKO party conducted a memory action 1,418 candles
per every day of the war commemorating the victims of the
Second World War. The action was held in Moscow and St.Petersburg
at night from June 21 to June 22 (the day the USSR was attacked
by Hitler's troops).
The action 1,418 candles per every day of the war has become
traditional for the YABLOKO party and has been held in Moscow
for several years already. Party activists and their families
come to the action and commemorate the victims of the war.
When all the candles were lit YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin
announced a minute of silence.
In St.Petersburg 1,418 candles were lit by the so-called
Blockade Ice-Hole where the citizens took water from during
the city blockade at the Fontanka embankment.
