Press Release

June 4, 2012

On the International Childrens Day, June 1, a joint meeting of YABLOKOs Commission on Education and Children under the Bureau of the party (which resumed work in May 2012) and Womens (Gender) Faction of YABLOKO took place in YABLOKOs office in Moscow.

The renovated Commission has considerably expanded its topics, adding new issues to already existing direction of work with orphanages, orphans and foster families.

Commission members and party activists discussed the key problems the party will work at in the field of education and protection of children. The meeting was monitored by Vyachslav Glinchikov, Commission Chair and famous educator, and Galina Mikhalyova, leader of YABLOKOs Women (Gender) Faction.

The participants of the meeting noted that the most acute problems in education were connected with a catastrophic shortage of kindergartens, extremely low child benefits, Federal Law No 83 envisaging merger of schools, low quality educational programmes and limited possibilities for extra-curricular activities.

Several speakers noted that non-balanced gender policy resulted in worsening of children's problems. Activists proposed a number of projects.

The meeting also outlined the main activities of the Commission with an increased number of members.

At the same time Olga Vlasova, Commission member, spoke at a rally against the merger of schools in Moscow.
