Draft city development plan of Korolyov,
Moscow region, was declined and sent to revision. Such a decision
was adopted on July 14 by the city administration basing on
the results of public hearings (see
our photo report) that took place in Korolyov on July
4.
Such a decision by the city authority marks a real victory
of the residents of the city who together with YABLOKO conducted
a large-scale public campaign against the city development
policies of the Korolyov administration. The draft envisaged
construction of a motor way in the sanitary zone of the Aukulovskiy
water canal and through the Losiniy Ostrov national park,
which not only would considerably worsen the environmental
situation in a Moscow satellite city, but would also make
the city a shipment station for heavy truck transport. Instead
of offering to the city dwellers some social infrastructure
objects, the plan only envisaged construction of three road
junctions.
Initiative groups of the residents of the city
and YABLOKO activists conducted several rallies and a motor
race (video),
as well as several pickets by the Moscow Region parliament
(video
report by Vesti, Moscow) and the Architectural Agency
of the Moscow Region (see
photo report), also collection of signatures against the
plan was organised. YABLOKO helped city residents to organize
mass-scale rallies (one of the speakers there was YABLOKOs
leader Sergei Mitrokhin - see
photo report). Thus, since the beginning of public discussion
of the draft (May 17), over 1,000 people left their critical
remarks on the draft plan and over 600 people came to the
public hearings (despite of the fact that the hearings were
conducted on a working day at noon).
