YABLOKOS leader Sergei Mitrokhin called the statement
made by Alexander Fedulov, head of the Kursk regional branch
of YABLOKO, on the need of repressive measures against the
LGBT community "unacceptable for a member of the party."
"Fedulov expressed his personal opinion which contradicts
the basic principles and values of the YABLOKO party, Mitrokhin
said. In a civilized state civil rights must be respected
regardless of ethnicity, social class and sexual orientation,"
he added.
Recognizing "the constitutional right of the LGBT community
to hold gay pride parades," Mitrokhin at the same time
urged them to "refrain from the use of such form to promotion
of their views which may provoke aggression and violence from
a part of the Russian society not only against the participants
of such parades, but and in general against all the citizens
of a different sexual orientation.
In turn, Alexander Fedulov admitted that his appeal to the
President of Russia [on prohibition of such parades] had been
an error.
"Before appealing to the President, I had to put the
question before the party leaders," he said. "Expressing
my personal point of view, I had no right in an open letter
to the state official to indicate my affiliation with the
party and my post of chair of its regional branch", Fedulov
added.
