Press Release
June 24, 2011

On June 24, YABLOKO and Women’s Social-Democratic Congress sign partnership agreement at the meeting of YABLOKO’s Bureau. On behalf of YABLOKO the document was signed by party leader Sergei Mitrokhin and Chair of the Gender Faction Galina Mikhalyova. On behalf of the Congress the agreement was signed by its President Tatyana Chertoritskaya.

Signing of the agreement reflects the policies of the party towards a coalition of the organisations sharing YABLOKO’s values. Earlier YABLOKO had already signed such agreements with the Green Russia and the Elder Generation that joined YABLOKO and formed their factions within the party.

The agreement is the result of interaction within the Council for Consolidation of Women’s Movement. YABLOKO is the only party in Russia which has a gender faction, which together with Women’s Social-Democratic Congress, is member of the Council.

Joint efforts of YABLOKO and the Congress will be targeted at raising the quality of life and labour conditions, improvement of education and healthcare. The parties to the agreement consider raising of social status of woman, elimination of discrimination as of sex and assistance to women entrepreneurs as their prime task.

Social protection of women can be improved via formation of the corresponding legislative basis providing for active participation of women in public life. The steps to these will be mandatory gender expertise of laws, especially in labour and social law, promotion of women to the state power bodies and development of family law so that to provide equal guarantees to men and women in raising and supporting children.

Tatyana Chertoritskaya expressed her certainty that signing of agreement with YABLOKO will become a sign for other partners of Women’s Social-Democratic Congress.
