A mourning action 1418 candles for each day of war 1941
1945 was held in the Victory Park, Moscow, at night June
22. YABLOKOs activists and ordinary citizens lit 1418 candles
by the memorial stone 1941 in the Victory Park at Poklonnaya
Gora, Moscow.
The number of candles corresponded to the 1418 days of war
with fascists.
After the candles were lit a minute of silence was announced.
YABLOKOs Chair Sergei Mitrokhin and founder of the party
and member of YABLOKOs Political Committee Grigory Yavlinsky
laid flowers to the Memorial Stone.
In St.Petersburg activists of the Youth YABLOKO lit 1418
candles by the so-called Blockade Ice-Hole (the place where
the citizens of Leningrad took water from during the blockade
of the city). The action began at 4 a.m. (the time when Hitlers
troops invaded the USSR) and lasted for two hours.
The action 1418 Candles for Each Day of War has become traditional
for YABLOKO and has been held for several years already.
