An environmental rally and a demonstration
organised by the Green Russia faction of the YABLOKO Party
with support of the North Caucasus Environmental Watch will
be conducted in Tuapse, Krasnodar Area, on April 9. The main
issue of the rally is not to allow for launching of a terminal
for transshipment of chemical fertilizers of the Eurochom
company. The terminal is built in the centre of the city.
An unlawful so-called “pilot” transshipment of futilisers
organised by Eurochim last spring led to a situation when
all the neighbouring territories were covered by chemical
dust. This provoked a public outburst in Tuapse – the city
dwellers were absolutely against launching of such a hazardous
facility in the city.
The environmental action will deal with a launch of the facility,
also it the rally will discuss a borad spectrum of environmental
problems, such as negative influence on the environment of
Rosneft’s oil transshipment facilities, plans of oil extraction
(on the shelf by the Tuapse coast), problems of the dump at
the Kadosh Cape and other problems.
Other parties, such as Patriots of Russia and the communist
party and different public organisations will also participate
in the rally. Heads of the Tuapse city government and the
Tuapse district government, as well as heads of companies
polluting the environment are also invited.
The rally will begin at 3 p.m. at the October Revolution
Square and will end at 5.30 p.m. The demonstration will take
place from 5.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (the route: from the October
Revolution Square along Karl Marx street). This time the district
administration gave a permit to conduct the action.
