The trial on the second criminal case of the
YUKOS company is close to the end. The sentence to Mikhail
Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev will be announced on December
15. The state prosecution demands that the defendants should
get 14 years of prison settlement. Co-Chair of the Board ZaModernizatsiyu.Ru
(For Modernisationa) Grigory Yavlinsky commenting the trial
to the Finam FM radio told that Khodorkovsky was a victim
of the state system.
"I deeply sympathize to Mikhail Khodorkovsky in view
of such a situation. In general, all the developments with
Khodorkovsky are far from justice.
Khodorkovsky's position indeed resembles a situation of a
political prisoner, because this state created in 1990s such
conditions for entrepreneurs that virtually resulted in such
a situation that criminal charges could be brought against
an absolute majority of them.
This was a big failure of the Russian reforms leading to
depriving the Russian businesses of any political vote. Investments
into Russia’s economy are factitious, and entrepreneurs are
afraid to invest. This means laying the foundations of such
a system, which from both economic and political point of
view has no prospects, it is fatal for the country. And Mikhail
Khodorkovsky turned out a victim, the system demonstrates
its capabilities on his example”.
