In connection with the ongoing unauthorized spam e-mails, deputy of the State Duma Sergei Mitrokhin (the YABLOKO faction) has sent an official inquiry to the Head of the Federal Security Service Nikolai Patrushev. The letter contains a demand "that corresponding departments be instructed to conduct an investigation to identify the source of the unauthorized spam mail and prevent such actions in future."

As we previously informed our readers, spam e-mails Mitrokhin's signature began to be sent on Wednesday March 26 and had still been sent out by 1 p.m. Monday, March 31. In this period the mail-box Mitrokhin@yabloko.ru (indicated in the spam e-mails) has received about 36,000 responses. The peak of the attack occurred on Friday, March 28, when about 28,000 letters were received.

YABLOKO's experts think that the spam e-mailing is generated through a computer virus that infected a number of stations abroad. Analysis of the technical data revealed that the spam was sent from personal computers located in the UK, France, Italy, Brazil and Poland.
The Press Service of the YABLOKO faction would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that it is not the source of the spam.
