“Who Wi ll Be Answerable for the Acts of Terror?” was the slogan of today’s picket of YABLOKO’s activists.

They put three large panels with information on the acts of terror for the past ten years (date, place, number of victims) by the Griboyedov monument at Chistiye Prudi.

Special information boards were devoted to explosion in the underground crossing under the Pushkin square in the centre of Moscow, hostages of the Nord-Ost musical, bombings of the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service buildings, bombings of passenger trains, Beslan school, bombings in the Moscow metro. All the boards had a symbolic memorial plague and a question “Who is answerable?”

A special board was devoted to the act of terror in Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.

“We are asking with the help of this picket who will be answerable for these acts of terror? As no one from the top officials of the interior and secret services was liable for this, their activities have been absolutely non-transparent so far,” said YABLOKO’s leader Sergei Mitrokhin.

“Why should we believe to victorious reports by secret services that they have allegedly eliminated terrorists in the mountains when we constantly get the new ones?” he added

YABLOKO proposes to create a system of parliamentary and public control over secret services.
According to Mitrokhin, a special parliamentary commission should be created in the State Duma and the heads of the secret services should be accountable before it.

Also Mitrokhin proposed to create a special independent public commission which would analyse the reasons behind the past acts of terror and would find how these were investigated. After which the commission will inform the society of its conclusions.

Mitrokhin also added that such a commission was created in the US after the 11th of September 2001. Its report indicated at the drawbacks in the work of the US secret services and gave recommendations on their reorganization, as well as advice to the President.

“The American society adjusted its life to the challenges of international terrorism. And we see the result – no acts of terror for the past ten years. And we have acts of terror every month and even more often depending on the situation in the North Caucasus,” Mitrokhin stressed.

“We have to put an end to uncontrolledness and irresponsibility of our secret services,” he added.

The action lasted for an hour and the police did not interfere this time.
