A year ago, on January 13, 2010, Chair of
the Russian government Vladimir Putin issued a decree on resuming
of functioning of the Baikal Pulp Plant. The past year demonstrated
that the work of the pulp plant was associated with constant
violation of the pollution norms.
Instead of abrogation of this decision the Government obviously
is going to meet the commercial interests of manufacturers
of pulp and is planning under faked pretexts to even revise
these norms!
Pollution of Lake Baikal is a crime not only against the
present generations, but also future generations and not only
those of Russia, but the entire world.
We demand that functioning of the Baikal Pulp Plant should
be immediately stopped!
