Moscow. Moscow 's officials refused the request from YABLOKO
Democratic Party and a number of social organizations of Russia to march
on 1 May under the slogan "Civil Society Against a Police State".
The refusal cited improper registration of documents.
On 1 May participants in the action planned to march along Myasnitskaya
Street up to Lubyanka Square and hold a meeting on the square near the
Solovetsky Stone. About 6,000 people planned to take part.
The organisation committee members are perplexed by the refusal. YABLOKO
has significant experience in drafting such requests. However, the action’s
organizers will assert the citizens' rights to freedom of assembly and
intend to apply to the city administration again.
