Moscow. March 1, 2004. The new Government is likely to
be fully controlled by the President. Such a statement was made by Deputy
Chairman of the YABLOKO party Sergei
Mitrokhin in an interview with a Rosbalt correspondent, commenting
on the proposal [made by the President] to appoint Mikhail Fradkov as Prime
Minister.
"This a purely technical post, noted Mitrokhin. - Fradkov is a
not a figure of great significance, he does not represent any distinct
political course." Mitrokhin did not rule out that after the presidential
elections and resignation of the new members of the Cabinet a new person
might be appointed Head of the Cabinet.
"President Putin has obviously decided to take a break with the
development of this issue," stressed deputy Head of the party. Mitrokhin
also said that the main goal of the most recent political events was to
dismiss Mikhail Kasyanov, rather than propose Fradkov's candidacy. "In
this way the President gave his critical assessment of the functioning
of the former Cabinet," noted Mitrokhin.
