Anchor: Politicians and economists have been
disputing today whether the Russian economic growth can double in ten years.
The opinions of Presidential Advisor Andrei Illarionov and YABLOKO's leader
Grigory Yavlinsky clashed
at the meeting of the Open Forum club.
Illarionov, Presidential Advisor for Economic Issues:
Over the past 50 years 70 countries which doubled their GDPs in ten years.
Not in twenty, but in ten years, as if they were impelementing the [same
task as] the task [of doubling GDP] formulated in the Presidential Address.
Statistics demonstrate that 70 out of approximately 140 countries have
such statistical data for this period. This means about half the countries
in the contemporary world really doubled their GDP within a decade.
Yavlinsky, YABLOKO leader: Today we enjoy a good position
in, say, [economic] growth in the raw material sector. Now we are seeing
powerful and considerable inflows of hard currency into the country in
the raw material sector. But there has been no impetus from the raw material
sector to other economic sectors.
