| The Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO and the Union of
Right-Wing Forces Party express their deep concern over the detention of
the head of YUKOS Mikhail Khodorkovsky in Novosibirsk.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky was on a Russian internal flight and to all intents
and purposes had no plans to leave Russia.
The scope of the developments, regardless of the intentions of the law
and enforcement agencies, will lead to a deterioration of the political
situation in the country and raise doubts about the stability of the constitutional
order in Russia.
We hope that such actions are not attributable to a political decision
that someone has taken and that there will be no escalation in the political
crisis and the situation will become clearer in the near future.
As deputies of the State Duma we insist on unconditional observance
of the law regarding all individuals involved in law cases started by
the Public Prosecutor's Office.
We consider it necessary to conduct a meeting of the leaders of the
State Duma factions and the President.
