Grigory Yavlinsky: Peace conference on Chechnya should be conducted in Moscow

The leader of the YABLOKO party Grigory Yavlinsky proposed holding a peace conference on Chechnya to further regulate the situation in the republic. According to Interfax, Yavlinsky made such a statement in an interview on the Itogi programme on TVS television channel. "We think it absolutely necessary to conduct a peace conference on Chechnya in Moscow, it should be chaired by the President of Russia and based on the Russian Constitution and Russian laws. We think that all the opposing parties, all the forces that are significant in Chechnya, except for war criminals, should participate in this conference," said Yavlinsky. According to Yavlinsky, an international commission should be convoked prior to the conference to decide who should be considered to be a war criminal. "We presume that a very authoritative commission, involving the Council of Europe and international organizations, should be created to determine the real situation with the war criminals in Chechnya and that the conference should chaired by the President. This is an absolutely must. And then we will have an answer to the question [about war criminals]," said Yavlinsky.
