Russian President Vladimir Putin said it was absurd to
imply that presence of the Union of Right-Wing Forces in a new Russian
State Duma was undesirable owing to its financing, inter alia, by the Yukos
oil giant, ITAR-TASS news agency reported.
On Saturday 20 September when speaking to foreign media Putin stressed
that he would like both the Union of Right-Wing Forces and Yabloko be
part of the new Duma, as they have carried out positive work for the lower
chamber of the Russian parliament. On the same day earlier Putin attended
a United Russia party congress in Moscow, as he said, in gratitude to
United Russia members in the Duma for joint work over the past four years.
