"We assess the events around YUKOS related to the
arrest of one of the heads
of the company and the Public Prosecutors' interrogation of the head of
the
company as absolutely unjustified from common sense or the legal point
of
view.
We assess such repressive measures as useless and harmful from viewpoint
of the condition of the Russian economy, Russian business and social moods."
This assessment of the events around YUKOS was provided by the Chairman
of the Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO Grigory
Yavlinsky on July 4, 2003.
According to Yavlinsky, this act may strike a vital blow on the investment
climate in Russia. He also thinks that the events around YUKOS undermine
economic and political stability in the country.
