Moscow, June 21, 2003 /MK-Novosti/. Today the State Duma
approved a draft resolution, including an address to Prime Minister Mikhail
Kasyanov on the need for Russia to sign the Bologna Declaration of 1999.
The author of the draft Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education
and Science Alexander
Shishlov (YABLOKO faction) warned deputies of the possible isolation
of Russia's higher education system, if Russia fails to participate in
the Bologna process. The main tasks of the Bologna process are to create
in Europe of a system of comparable education cycles, academic degrees
and qualifications, increase the academic mobility of students and university
teachers and finally pool the educational resources of different countries.
