Recently Chairman of the YABLOKO party Grigory
Yavlinsky handed to the President of Russia a package of urgent
measures to evacuate the residents of two towns in Chelyabinsk region,
Tatarskaya Karabolka and Muslyumovo. YABLOKO proposes that the President
of Russia adopt urgent measures to evacuate the residents of these
territories that were subject to radioactive contamination due to
the Mayak disaster and the flow of radioactive waste into the Techa
river.
Decisions to evacuate Tatarskaya Karabolka and Muslyumovo were
adopted in the Soviet times, but have still not been implemented,
noted Deputy Head of the YABLOKO party Sergei
Mitrokhin.
The problem was raised during the discussions [in the State Duma]
of the state budget for 2003, but the government's verdict was
negative. That is why Grigory Yavlinsky had to address the President
of the RF directly on this issue. According to YABLOKO's estimates,
evacuation of the residents of Tatarskaya Karabolka and Muslyumovo
(about 4,600 people) to safe areas would require 850 million roubles
from the state budget.
